Disinfectants, anti-bacterial sprays and natural bleaches
You are about to make the most amazing natural and safe cleaners in your own home.
A disinfectant is anything that reduces the number of harmful bacteria on a surface. No surface treatment will completely eliminate bacteria.
Regular cleaning with plain soap and water will kill some bacteria.
Disinfectant One
Borax has long been known for its disinfectant and deodorising properties. Mix 55g (1/2 cup) of borax into 4 ltrs (1 gallon) of hot water for a great cleaning
solution.
Disinfectant Two
2 tablespoons of borax
55ml (1/4 cup) of lemon juice
450ml (2 cups) of hot water
Combine the borax and lemon juice with the water in a spray bottle. Simply use as you would any commercial all purpose cleaner.
Disinfectant Three
Isopropyl alcohol is an excellent disinfectant. Sponge on and allow to dry.
Use in a well ventalated area and wear gloves. Keep it away from children.
Disinfectant Spray
450ml (2 cups) of water
55ml (1/4 cup) of white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon of tea tree oil
1/4 teaspoon of lavender oil
Combine all the ingredients and store in a spray bottle. Shake before use.
Use wherever a disinfectant spray is needed.
Lavender Anti-Bacteria Spray
Lavender contains a high percentage (up to 50 percent) of an ingredient called linalool which kills bacteria and viruses. Put 20 drops of pure
essential oil of lavender in one cup of water, and spray the air, table tops, door knobs, telephones, around bins and toilets - anywhere
you would usually use a disinfectant.
Natural Bleach Alternative
For a good natural bleach alternative take a 4ltr (1 gallon) container and fill it half up with cold water, add 225ml (1 cup) of Castile soap. Dilute
into this 40g (1/3 cup) of salt and 60g (1/2 cup) of baking soda and add 225ml (1 cup) of vinegar. Then full up with more water.
